Raymond was born September 14, 1934, in the Joe Lee Community, to William Ernest and Ida Beatrice Warren Taylor. He was raised in and around Rogers and graduated from Rogers High School in May of 1953. Raymond met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Bostick, in high school and they married on February 21, 1954, in the home of her grandparents, Fred and Minnie Lips. Raymond and Mary established their home in Temple, Texas and raised three children, Doyle, Kathy and Judy and remained in Temple for 45 years.
In his early married years, Raymond was employed by Stoneham Refrigeration where he worked until 1963. He and his brother, Alfred Taylor, then decided to go into their own business forming Taylor Refrigeration. Later, he had his own business, Raymond Taylor Refrigeration, until he retired. In November 2000, Raymond and Mary purchased and moved to a family ranch in Rogers to become a full-time cattle rancher. He enjoyed caring for his animals on the ranch. Until later in life, he was an avid deer hunter.
Raymond will be remembered as a man who loved the Lord, and it was evident in his daily life. He was an active member of the Baptist churches he attended throughout his life. He lived out his faith by adhering to high Christian standards where he cared for others, served others, respected others, and treated people honestly believing that a handshake meant you kept your word. He taught his children how to respect and treat others, always lending a hand in times of need.
Raymond’s loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Taylor, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 25, 2019. Raymond was also preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ida Taylor; a brother, Alfred Taylor and a sister, Helen Taylor Cryer; and two grandsons, Joshua Taylor and Matthew Taylor Marshall.
Raymond is survived by a son, Doyle Taylor and his wife Karen of Rogers; a daughter, Kathy Marshall and her husband Gordon of Temple; and a daughter, Judy Josey and her husband Keith of Houston; three sisters, Rita Jones and husband David; Ernestine Brown; and Earline Reid; and one brother, Terry Taylor.
Raymond’s greatest joy was time with his 12 grandchildren who all called him Papa. Brandy Smith and husband Troy of Cedar Park; Jennifer Pitts and husband Blake of Belton; Derek Marshall and wife Madeline of Belton; Daniel Josey and wife Erica of Haslet, TX; Grant Josey and wife Katy of Dallas; Emily Smith and husband Hayden of Houston; Stephanie Taylor of Elmore City, OK; Rebecca Richardson and husband Ritchie of Elmore City, OK; Caleb Taylor and wife Brittney of Paul’s Valley, OK; Kacy Burtchell of Temple; Trent Denio and wife Alyssa of Charlotte, NC; and Megan Noyes and husband Andrew of Bethlehem, NH. His blessings continued to increase with 29 great grandchildren and one on the way.
Raymond will be greatly missed by his large family and close friends. The family would like to thank his very special caretakers and friends, especially Ronda Bringman, and Standards Home Health nurses Nicole Ramirez and nurse KT Thurman.
Visitation/Social will be Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall at the First Baptist Church of Rogers. The funeral service will follow in the Sanctuary at 12:30 PM with Dr. Allen Raynor officiating. A private family burial will then follow at Rogers Cemetery.
