Funeral services for Mary Margarette Martin Covington, age 93, of Temple will be held at Memorial Baptist Church on Saturday, October 23 at 10:00 AM with Dr. Robert Creech, former pastor at University Baptist Church in Houston and current professor at Truett Theological Seminary will be officiating. Following the church service, entombment will be at Bellwood Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation for family and friends will be at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home on Friday, October 22 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Mrs. Covington died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at her assisted living home in Houston. She moved to Houston in 1993 in order to be closer to her son and extended family and became an active member of University Baptist Church where she formed many close friendships and was loved by many. Before moving to Houston, she was a longtime resident of Temple and was a nurse at Santa Fe Hospital for many years. Mrs. Covington was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she and her husband taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She was a 60-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Temple Vashti Chapter 32 Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of the Beauceant and Daughters of the Nile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip A. Covington, Sr., sister, Mozelle Morrison of Alpine and parents, Jay and Gladys Martin. Survivors include her son, Phillip A. Covington, Jr. and wife, Carole of El Lago, grandson, Phillip Covington III and wife, Taylor of Boerne, granddaughter, Sarah Gutheinz and husband, Joe of Clear Lake and great-grandson and great-granddaughter, Joey and Emma Gutheinz.
