

Marion Sanderson Belknap, age 87, of Temple died Thursday, July 23, 2009 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 28, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Chapel in Temple with Neil Haney officiating. Visitation will start at 10:00 AM prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 29 at Seagraves Cemetery with a visitation from 1:30 - 2:30 PM at Mark A. Jones Funeral Directors in Seagraves, Texas. Mr. Belknap was born on September 7, 1921 in Bomarton to George Washington Alonzo Belknap and Sarah Rissa Gordy Belknap. His family moved to Ft. Sumner, New Mexico where he lived for 14 years. They moved to Seagraves where he graduated from high school. He married Dorothy Dell Webb in 1944 in Seminole. They moved to Midland where they raised their family. He worked for the Western Company for nine years then became self-employed. He owned Belknap Machinery and Supply Company and A-1 Oil Treaters, Inc. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #957 in Seminole, Scottish Rite Bodies and was a Shriner. He was a longtime friend and supporter of Scott & White Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Dorothy, his brother, Munroe Belknap and a stepson, Buford Chamberlain. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Belknap of Temple, one son, Steven Belknap and wife, Loretta of Odessa, three daughters, Susan Cox and husband, Don of Irving, Judith Smith and husband, Larry of Brownwood, Beverly Verdery and husband, Richard of Normal, Illinois, eight grandchildren, Andy Smith and wife, Darrah of Georgia, Amy Cox and Joy Cox both of Irving, Molly Smith of Mullin, Suzanne Dell and husband, Nick of Keller, Scott Verdery of Illinois, Laura Verdery of Irving and Stephanie Belknap of Odessa and five great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madison, Aubrey, Jonathan and Ethan. Also surviving are two sisters, Wanda Black and husband, Layne of Denver City, Geneva Cornett and husband, John of Gatesville, two step-daughters, June Williams of Katy, Barbara Holthusen of Arlington and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Scott & White Cancer Treatment Center.
