Lydia Amanda Hohle Winkler was born on July 9, 1926, one mile south of where she currently lived, to Charles Bernhard and Martha Symm Hohle. She was baptized on July 10, 1926 at The Grove by Pastor F.W. Behrmann and Confirmed in that same Christian faith on March 17, 1940 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, The Grove, Texas, under the tutelage of Pastor William Remmert. Lydia was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church her entire life.
She was raised on her family farm and attended St. Paul Lutheran School. Lydia married Clarence Winkler on December 26, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor M.J. Scaer officiating.
Lydia enjoyed many things throughout her 95 years of life on this earth. The list would include things like being a member of our Quilting Bee and CLASSICS group, helping with the worship services at the Meadows Nursing Home, helping in various areas of ministry to our children, including Vacation Bible School, Little Disciples, serving as a Sunday School teacher, and being a very important part of our Church Picnics by seeing to it that there was Bingo, a Fish Pond, ice cream, and a water slide the past few years. She and Clarence were also credited with starting the Annual Easter Egg hunt at church. As a career, Lydia worked for 55 years at the Winkler Pecan Plant. She was fond of saying that she never retired. As you know, she just found other things to do.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Winkler; by her parents, C. B. and Martha Symm Hohle; by her brothers, Charlie Hohle, Gilbert Hohle, and Elmer Hohle; by her sister Edith Winkler; and by three of her 11 God children, Jimmy Winkler, John Wayne Pyburn, and Mary Winkler Alsup.
Lydia is survived by 8 God-children, Leatrice Sams Alston, Darlene Symm Tate, Kathy Hohle Smith, Tina Symm Miller, David Hohle, Michael Hohle, Melissa Winkler Houchin, and Daniel Symm; and by a huge extended family, along with many, many friends who will miss her greatly.
Lydia Amanda Hohle Winkler passed away this past Tuesday morning, August 10, 2021, at the age of 95 years, 1 month, and 1 day old. Now through faith in Jesus Christ alone, she lives for all eternity with her, and our, Father in heaven.
To God be all the glory!
