Lorraine was born October 8, 1935 in Coral Gables, Florida to Terrence William Long and Theresa Barbara (Lux) Long. She attended grade and high school in Dearborn Missouri, attended college in St. Joseph, Missouri and The University of California at Los Angeles, California. At UCLA, she was member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and played the cello in the UCLA Symphony Orchestra. She pursued a major in English Literature with a specialty in Victorian Literature. She also held a secondary degree in music.
Lorraine married Lt. Charles E. Miller Jr. on June 21, 1955 at West Point, New York. She accompanied her husband to Army posts in the U.S. and Europe, where she witnessed the Berlin Wall go up in 1961. They ultimately settled in Temple Texas while Charles commuted to Ft. Hood (now Ft. Cavazos) in 1971.
Lorraine was an avid reader of biographies and mysteries. She loved classical music, art of all types — especially painting, “armchair” science, and gardening among her numerous varied interests.
Lorraine is preceded in death by husband, Col. Charles E. Miller Jr. in 2003 and her daughter Carol Louise Miller in 2021.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Charles E. Miller III of Houston, Texas, Susan E. Serdar of Carlsbad, California, Laura L. Cubos of Hewitt, Texas, and Henry L. Miller of Austin, Texas; their spouses and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Temple. Visitation will start at 10:00am, followed by service at 11:00am. Graveside service will follow at Bellwood Cemetery, Temple Texas.
