Funeral services for Lorraine Cox of Temple will be held Monday, January 18, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Henderson officiating. Burial will be following the service at Moffat Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Cox died peacefully January 16th at her home. Mrs. Cox was born March 3, 1929 in Blackjack, Texas to Ennis H. Crowder and Thelma Garland Crowder. She graduated from Hearne High School in 1946. She lived in Temple for the last 60 years. She was active in her church, First Baptist Church of Temple and Heights Baptist Church of Temple and Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Storey Mathews in 1948 and husband, John T. M. Cox, Sr. in 1980, her sister, Virginia Crowder Hulsey in 1990 and her brother, Ennis (Buddy) Crowder, Jr. in 1992. Survivors include her two sons, James Cox and wife, Doris of Temple and John Cox, Jr. and wife, Mary of Holland, five grandchildren, Eric Cox and wife, Brandy, Kelli Mills and husband, Chris, Melissa Moehle and husband, Chris, Natalie Cox and husband, Matt, Julie Houston and husband, Tyler and ten great-grandchildren, Bryson, Ethan, Bayley, Logan, Troupe, Dalton, Emerson, Knox, Cooper and Everley. Maw-Maw was a devoted mother and grandmother who was loved dearly by all who knew her. She took great pride in being able to beat almost anybody in Skip-Bo. Lorraine taught children in Sunday school and rocked the babies in the church nursery. She was also very active in the Golden Heights Choir and volunteered for Hospice for several years. Her family is blessed to have been a part of such abiding love. Pallbearers are Eric Cox, Bryson Mills, Chris Mills, Tyler Houston, Chris Moehle, Matt Page and Ethan Moehle.In lieu of flowers memorials to Scott and White Hospice 2401 South 31st St. Temple, TX 76508 would be appreciated.
