Dr. LAWRENCE EARL MANN, 86, passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at his home in Temple. The Memorial Service celebrating his life with a reception following will be at Grace Presbyterian Church, Temple, Texas at 1pm on Monday, August 19, 2013. Rev. Thom Lamb will be officiating. A private burial will be at the Central Texas Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Arnett Mann, married August 27, 1950 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his children Carol Mann Lynch and husband Dr. V. Michael Lynch of Temple, Texas; Wayne Arnett Mann
and Holly Beachley Brear of Culpepper, Virginia; Barbara Mann Eubank and husband, Donald Eubank of Dallas, Texas. He and Helen named their grandchildren “The Special 7”; Kelly Elizabeth Lynch, David Mann Lynch and wife Emily, Lesley Ellen Lynch, Kristen Mann Timson and husband Patrick, Kyle Barnes Mann, Lauren Arnett Berryman and husband Ben, Christopher Thomas Eubank, and 3 great-grandchildren, Oliver David Lynch, Molly Rose Lynch, Lafayette Henderson Lynch.
Dr. Mann was born June 25, 1927 in Blackwell, Oklahoma and was the son of the late Earl and Barbara Mann of Tonkawa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Tonkawa
High School, Tonkawa, Oklahoma and then Oklahoma A& M College, now Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma. He received a Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. His internship was at Hillcrest Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He and his family moved to Paris, Texas in 1958 where he practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 35 years. He later joined the Emeritus Medicus, Temple, Texas
He was a member of the Central United Presbyterian Church, Paris, Texas for 42 years where he served as an Elder and clerk of Session and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a past president of the Lamar Delta Medical Society and past president of the staff of McCuistion Regional Medical Center, Paris. He was a member of the Texas Medical Association, Texas Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Medical Association, and was a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
In 2000, Lawrence and Helen moved to Temple Texas where they joined Grace Presbyterian church on their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children present. He was a member of the Presbyterian Men and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Dr. Mann enjoyed private flying for many years and was a member of the Flying Physicians. He served as the Aviation Medical Examiner for pilots in the Lamar
County area, and also served two terms as chairman of the Paris Airport Advisory Board. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Lawrence and Helen traveled extensively together. He had a passion for gardening and woodworking in his “shop”. He and Helen inspired their children to value faith and family foremost. For 40 years, Dr. Mann delivered newborn babies into the arms of new mothers and was delivering the second generation when he retired. He has now been delivered into the arms of Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, if memorials are preferred, the family suggests Grace Presbyterian Church, Temple, Texas, Central Presbyterian Church, Paris, Texas, or charity of choice.
