Funeral services for Kenneth Eugene Rodgers, 95, of Temple will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday Aug. 4, 2021 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Clarence Mounce and Rachel Potter officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Rodgers died Saturday in a Temple Living Center.
Mr. Rodgers was born June 25, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to Lewis Rodgers and Mary Eck Rodgers. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany. He married Doris Flint October 2, 1954. She preceded him in death December 19, 2016. He moved to Temple in 1982. He was in the Feed business in Illinois and owned and operated Ken Rodgers Feed Service, Inc. in Temple and operated Sage Computer in Temple. He was a non-denominational Christian.
Ken learned responsibility at a young age. Being the oldest of 3 boys he sold papers on a street corner in St Louis after school and on weekends when in elementary to help support his family. He was advanced from 2nd to 4th grade making him only 16 when he graduated from high school. He married and lost his first wife to illness in his twenties and then at 28 married Doris. She was his truest friend and soulmate and they enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage, bound as closely by their faith in God as they were by their human love for each other. Their close bond made for a security in their home that was valued by their family and many friends. He will be keenly missed.
Survivors include one son Dale Rodgers and wife Kay of Stockdale; two daughters Donna Klepzig and husband Stephen of Hutto and Marilyn Vickers and husband John of Waco; one brother Wayne Rodgers and his wife Barbara of St. Charles, Missouri; grandchildren Alan Vickers, Kaitlyn Smith, Megan Mathias, Colter Rodgers, Chance Rodgers and Aimee Vickers and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
