Services for Jon Kevin Lock, 16, of Temple will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist of Temple with the Rev. Bert DeBord of Temple and Max Heller of Sky Ranch officiating. Private burial will be held in Temple. Jon died in an automobile accident in Troy, TX on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. Born July 31, 2000 in Temple to Greg and Jill Lock, he attended Temple schools. Although he was challenged with dyslexia, he was accepted into the Gifted and Talented Program, and later took Advanced Placement classes. He played football at Bonham Middle School, and City League Baseball in Temple. He had participated in band and orchestra at Temple High School and most recently played on the THS Varsity Golf team. At Temple College Academy Musique, he had studied private piano, cello, and trombone. From 6th to 8th grade, he was an active member of the Temple Junior Cotillion of the Wildflower Guild where he learned to be what the girls would describe as a “great” dance partner. He continued in the program as a Freshman and Sophomore Escort and more recently was a Wildflower Junior Escort candidate at the time of his death. Jon was also a master hunter and fisherman as soon as he could hold a gun or a fishing pole, becoming National Champion of the Junior Striper Bass Association at age 5. Jon loved animals. Among his favorites were his dogs Daisy Lou, Lucy Bell, and Winky Bobby. His beloved black lab, Lucy, was always at his side when he hunted. He especially like to duck hunt, and he was “phenomenal” at duck calling. There are two things Jon said he wanted to be when he grew up. Because of the success he experienced at Sky Ranch Summer Christian Youth Camp from ages 8-15 years old and the leadership skills he demonstrated while there, Jon thought he would like to work as a Christian Leader with youth and other people. He also expressed interest in becoming a hunting and fishing guide like his father and grandfather before him. Through the ups and downs of his life, his sister, Jackie, described him as always being steadfast in his Faith. Jon, nicknamed “Harry Potter” by friends, had a winning personality and was described as being witty, intelligent, fun-loving and affectionate. He genuinely enjoyed friendships with people of all ages. He touched the lives of all he came in contact with and will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Jon leaves behind his father and mother, Greg Lock of Rogers and Jill Lock of Temple, a sister Jacqueline Stevens, and her husband, Adam of Copperas Cove; grandmothers Carol Lock of Tow, TX, and Joelle Bedwell of Temple; Annette Kisely (aunt) and husband, Marvin of Temple, Susan Bedwell (aunt) of Austin, David Bedwell (uncle) and wife Heather of Austin; and his cousin, Annette’s son, Michael McKay of Temple.Preceding him in death are his grandfathers, Gary Wayne Lock and Dr. Michael C.
