John Robert Macha

A visitation will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. immediately following the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cyclone, Texas followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cyclone.

John was born on May 10, 1961 in Pecos, Texas to Robert and Marie (Neu) Macha. He was the sixth of eight children, growing up on the family farm in Marlin, Texas. As a young boy, John developed a love for farming and fishing. He spent many hours on the Brazos River with his siblings and friends. John had a love for the land and made a lifelong career farming crops, such as corn and soybeans, in Marlin.

John married the love of his life, Anna, on June 29, 1985. Together they had three children. John was a loving husband and proud father. During his children’s youth, he enjoyed watching them in their activities and sporting events. He could remember every detail of each game or event and would often share stories for years after they occurred. As his children grew older, he was proud to watch each of them become parents. Nothing made him happier than bringing joy to his four grandchildren, who adored their PaPa.

John had a legendary green thumb, a trait he shared with his mother. His yard would bloom vibrantly each season and was often the talk of the town. John cherished taking every opportunity possible to pass along his profound knowledge of fishing to his friends and loved ones during his many fishing trips. John’s latest passion was building custom fishing rods under the brand J Macha Custom Rods. He had a shop full of perfectly organized rod building supplies – with twice as much as what his wife knew about. He was a faithful servant of God and proud member of the Knights of Columbus Temple, Texas Council 7197.

John’s infectious smile and hallmark dimples were the outward manifestation of his big heart and kind character. He enjoyed teaching others and sharing his profound knowledge about everything from woodworking to gardening to fishing with those he loved. John was always up for a good game, especially dominoes, and appreciated the family who would indulge him in his favorite past time. He was a truly special man who will be dearly missed by many.

John is survived by his wife Anna of Rogers; daughters Adriana Macha of Rogers and Nancy Prater and husband Dexter of Euless; son Matthew Macha and wife Rachel of Pilot Point; four grandchildren: Hunter Daugherty, Eliana Prater, Bryce Macha, and Luke Macha. He is also survived by his mother Marie Macha of Marlin; his siblings: Patrick Macha of Marlin, Peggy Hrabal and husband Chris of Westphalia, Marsha Stephens of DeLeon, Phillip Macha of Marlin, and Paula Niemeyer of Westphalia, brother-in-law Jamie Clowers of Rogers, brother-in-law Jimmy Skrhak and wife Robyn of Rogers, sister-in-law Cheryl Walden and husband Bobby of Rogers; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his father Robert Macha, brother Sammy Macha, and sister Susan Clowers.
