John (AKA), Wesley, Hey Dad, and Poppa was born in Virginia to John Wesley Hitt Jr. and Dorothy Donald Hitt. John proudly served our country in the United States Army. He married the love of his life Virginia "Paulette" Drake on January 22, 1974, they were blessed with an unmatchable love. Together they lived life to the fullest and left behind a legacy that all would be proud of. To John his family and friends were always his number one priority. His love for his family was pure and was given unconditionally. He had an endless bucket of love that was showered on his children and grandchildren, together they had four sons, four daughters, twenty seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. John was a carpenter by trade and owned Hitt's construction for many years, where he taught all his sons and many others the trade.
John was preceded in death by his wife Virginia "Paulette" Hitt, father John Wesley Hitt Jr., mother Dorothy Hitt, a sister, Linda Crouse, 3 brothers, Vincent, Glen and Larry Hitt and a daughter Dorothy Pendley.
He is survived by his sons, Randy Hitt and wife Debbie of Belton, Joe Hitt and wife Candi of Temple, J.W. Hitt and wife Chelsea of Troy, Darren Hitt and wife Cindy of Belton, daughters, Brenda Hitt of Rodgers, Amanda Chagnon of Belton and Shawana LaChelle Turner of Belton. A sister-in-law Linda Hitt of Moffat, 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A visitation for John will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 3220 South 31st Street, Temple, Texas 76502. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Belton, TX.
