John Mark Griffith, aged 67, passed away on September 14, 2024, in Temple, Texas. Born on June 6, 1957, in Detroit, MI, John's life journey took him through various places, including Garden City, MI; Fayetteville, NC; Bedford, TX; Fort Walton Beach, FL; the Philippines; Fort Carson, CO; Peyton, CO; and finally, Temple, TX.
John proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1993. During his service, he was a part of the 82nd Airborne and specialized in Track Vehicle Repair. His military career was distinguished by numerous accolades, such as the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Driver and Mechanical Badge, Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle M-16), Expert Badge for Hand Grenade, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Army Achievement Medal.
He had a passion for working on vehicles and photography, hobbies that he pursued with great enthusiasm and skill. These interests not only brought joy to John but also allowed him to connect with others who shared his passions.
John is survived by his parents, Ronald and Patricia (Stebbins) Griffith, daughters Jamie Griffith and Danielle Wass (Griffith), his son Leland "Lee" Griffith, brothers Mike and Ronald Griffith, grandchildren Sterling Griffith, Chloe Griffith, and Gabriel Griffith, cousins Peter and Mary Flynn, and Aunt Susie Flynn. He was preceded in death by his brother James Griffith.
John’s family finds solace and strength in the scriptures 1 Peter 1:3 and Psalms 34:18 “The Lord is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Which reflects his family’s deep belief in the mercy and hope provided by Jesus Christ.
Graveside services for John will be at 11:00 AM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, TX 76542, where family, and friends can pay their respects and celebrate his life and service.
