Corporal Joe E. Duarte
Joe was born October 7, 1971 in Marlin, TX to Raymond DeLeon and Oralia H. Duarte. After graduating from Troy High School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Twentynine Palms, California from 1991-1995 earning the rank of Corporal. He went to war in the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia also known as "Black Hawk Down" in 1993. Joe was sent to help restore order during the 1992 LA Riots. After being honorably discharged, Joe was employed as a lead saw machinist at Texas Hydraulics for 21 years.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother Oralia H. Duarte, sister Ruth D. Duarte, grandparents Joe H. and Magdalena D. Duarte, and Ernesto and Ermogines Herrera.
He is survived by his daughter Thalia M. Duarte of Belton, TX, father Raymond D. Duarte Sr. of Temple, TX, sister Sylvia and spouse Joe Trevino of Rogers, TX, sister Sandra Duarte of Temple, TX, brother Raymond and spouse Stacey Duarte of Temple, TX, sister Sheila and spouse Rudy Castilleja of Temple, TX, brother Paul Duarte of Temple, TX, and sister Sue and spouse Chris Garza of Temple, TX. Along with 17 nieces/nephews and 24 great nieces/nephews.
Joe's greatest love was for his family and his beloved dachshunds Mia and Miss-Miss. He enjoyed collecting coins, listening to music, traveling, and going hiking. He was very passionate about gardening. Joe's favorite football team was the Los Angeles Raiders and enjoyed watching the Texas Longhorns.
Visitation for Joe will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 from 6:00 PM — 8:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, TX. Memorial service will occur Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home with Pastor Basilio Montez officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Bellfalls Cemetery.
