Mass of Christian Burial for Jerome J. Schoppe, 76, of Cyclone will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Darrell Kostiha officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM Wednesday with Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
Mr. Schoppe died Saturday at his residence after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis.
Jerome was a founding member and officer of the Temple Civitan Club, a member of the Temple Jaycees. He was a founding member of Capital Area Ultralight Flying Organization. He loved his ultralight flying experiences after making his solo flight in 1983. His grandchildren were the joy of his life teaching them his fishing techniques and handing down all his fishing adventures from his young days with his Dad.
Mr. Schoppe was born October 12, 1946 in Bryan to Alfonse Schoppe and Marie Marek Schoppe. He graduated from Yoe High School in 1964 and attended Temple Jr. College and Baylor University. He served in the Air Force during Vietnam. He married Rose Marie Brenek November 5, 1966. He lived in the Temple area all of his life and worked in the Real Estate department of several Banks. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife Rose Marie; two daughters Brenda Mikeska of Temple and Virginia Cook and her husband Jeffrey of Academy; four grandchildren Brittlea Douglas, Carley Douglas, Jackson Cook and Colton Cook; four brothers Michael Schoppe and his wife Jo Ann of Cameron, Robert Schoppe and his wife Geneivieve of Cameron, Al Schoppe and his wife Dianne of Temple, and George Schoppe and his wife Rene of Gatesville; two sisters Kathy Schoppe of Temple and Bernadette Jochec and her husband Steve of Cameron.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents.
