Jean E. Slaton, age 86 of Temple, died Friday, December 10, 2010 in a local nursing center. A private memorial service was held. Mrs. Slaton was born on September 7, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late Ralph and Leatha (Hulin) Nicholson. Jean enlisted with Women's Army Corp in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1949 and was honorably discharged in 1951. Jean was married to CSM Ret. Robert L. Slaton and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2009. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include a son, Gerald L. Slaton of Temple; a grandson, Cory D. Slaton of Austin; a brother, Robert Atkinson of Marshalltown, IA; and two sisters, Meredith Halter of Melbourne, IA and Karen Crumley of Stanton, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Slaton's name to Scott & White Hospice or to the Children's Hospital Scott & White, 2401 S. 31st Street, Temple, Texas 76508.
