James E. (Dick) Blalock, age 89 of Temple, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at his residence. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 13, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Jackie Cox and Rev. Mattie Lee Cox officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at North Belton Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Blalock was born October 21, 1924 in Holland to Crawford Hilry and Ruby Lee Wilson Blalock. He was reared and educated in Salado. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy. He married Dorothy A. Lawson August 29, 1953. He worked as a civil service locksmith supervisor at Fort Hood for 32 years retiring in 1982. After retirement he owned and operated Blalock Lock and Key Service in Rockport for several years. He was a member of Faith Temple Lighthouse. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Alton Delwood Blalock, one sister, Lorena Connally and one daughter, Tammy Sanders. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Blalock of Temple, one son, Brad Blalock and wife, Tessy of Temple, two daughters, Sherry Hansen and husband, Lester of Tyler and Janet Thompson and husband, Harold of Temple, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Pallbearers are Jacob Rager, Cody Rager, Mark Blalock, Chris Oates, Tanner Morgan and Casey Hensen.
