Services for Herbert C. Schwake, 87, of Temple (formerly of Austin, TX) will be at 3:00 PM Friday, June 27th at First Lutheran Church in Temple with Pastor Patricia S. Dietrich officiating. After 87 years of faithful service, Herbert Schwake from Temple, TX (formerly from Austin, TX) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 24, 2014. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family and friends. He joins his parents, William Schwake and Lydia Grimm Schwake, his sons, Kenneth Lynn Schwake and Glenn Charles Schwake, and seven of his twelve siblings. He is survived by his faithful wife of 64 years, Esther Kasner Schwake, and his three children and their spouses, Dwayne Alan Schwake (Sara) of Eugene, OR, Diane Schwake Williams of Jarrell, TX, Teresa Schwake Leonhardt (Bruce, Sr.) of Princeton, TX, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, three brothers and their spouses, William Schwake (Elnora), Harold Schwake (Wanda) and Verlin "Shorty" Schwake, two sisters, Emilie Hoelscher and Lavern Boehme (Melvin), and the widow of Franklin Schwake, Lou Ann Schwake, and countless family and friends that will miss him dearly. He was a man whose character inspired all through his goodness and service to God, his fellow man and his country. He served his country in World War II in Japan. Most of his career was in commercial truck maintenance, with the last several years selling commercial truck tires. His pleasures in life included his yard full of flowers and pecan trees, dominoes, woodworking, travel, hunting, camping and boating. He was a man of many trades, never met a stranger, and loved to tell many stories. His greatest joy was to be around the people he loved. His boisterous laugh will always be remembered in the laughter of his family. We thank God for the honor of knowing him. We can truly say of him that he fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith (II Tim 4:7). In his honor, smile more, spread more love and laughter, go dancing, as he danced through life, and eat your favorite sweets. In lieu of flowers the family requests that charitable contributions be made to the organization his granddaughter, Kenisha Leonhardt, will join for long term missions, The For All Mankind Movement (FAMM) c/o Teresa Leonhardt, 206 Harvard Dr, Princeton, TX 75407; or to First Lutheran Church, Temple, TX. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, June 26th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
