Harry Buford Macey, Jr. died at his home in Temple, Texas on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 90. He was born on April 5, 1933 in Memphis, Tennessee to Harry B. Macey, Sr. and Virginia St. John Macey. Memphis, Tennessee and Rochester, Minnesota were his childhood homes before moving to Temple, Texas in 1946. He attended Central Junior High School, was a proud graduate of Temple High School (1951) and attended Temple Junior College before graduating from The University of Texas and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (1958). Following graduation from medical school, he completed his Internship at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas and then his Residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana and Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital in Independence, Louisiana.
He married Mary Ann Zinsmeyer on August 29, 1954 in D’Hanis, Texas and enjoyed their life together for almost 62 years. He began his medical career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Greene County, Ohio which spanned over 40 years before retiring from King’s Daughters Clinic in 2000. He was a member of many medical professional organizations including the Bell County Medical Society where he was President in 1977. Locally he served on the Temple Junior College Board of Trustees and was instrumental in founding and serving on the Temple Junior College Foundation. He also had leadership roles on the Bell County Board of Health, The Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Committee, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, and Cedar Crest Hospital. He loved and was dedicated to his church, St. Francis Episcopal Church. He was also passionate about being a Rotarian and was a member of the Rotary Club of Temple. He served as its President in 1976-77, led a group study exchange to Sweden in 1982, was the District Governor in 1991-92, and was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and Rotary Foundation Benefactor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his daughter Betty Ann Macey, an infant son, and his brothers Joe Macey and Michael Macey. He is survived by his daughters Marilyn Streater and husband Doug, Lisa Nix and husband Terry, and son Harry B. Macey III and wife Debbie; by grandchildren Mary Beth Streater Anthony and husband Travis, Douglas Streater, Jr. and wife Elyse, Brittany Nix Schubert and husband Andrew, Jonathan Nix and wife Callie, Jordan Dawkins and husband Justin, Haley Macey Brent and husband Austin, Harry B. Macey IV and wife Lynnsay; great–grandchildren Colby Anthony, Camryn Anthony, Carson Streater, Chandler Streater, Crawford Streater, Parker Schubert, Tate Schubert, Maren Nix, Hayden Nix, Jayci Dawkins, Jackson Dawkins, Macey Brent, Madison Brent, Hudson Macey, Cooper Macey, Jett Macey, and great-great-grandchild Audrie Martinez.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Temple, Texas. Visitation will be at 10:00 followed by the service at 11:00. Private burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temple College Foundation – Harry B.
