He was born on June 4, 1942, in Temple to Albin and Georgia (Pavlica) Sodek. Douglas attended Temple schools and later pursued studies at the University of Texas. Over the course of his career, he worked in merchandising at McLane’s, where he dedicated himself fully until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and found genuine joy in his profession.
On September 24, 1994, Douglas married Betty Webb in Temple. Together they shared many years filled with love and companionship.
Throughout his life, Douglas lived in several Texas cities including San Angelo and Corpus Christi before returning to Temple. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, working in the yard, and traveling. In retirement, he found comfort in his favorite chair and watching episodes of Gunsmoke and his favorite team, the Houston Astros.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Debbie Schneider.
Douglas is lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty (Webb) Sodek of Temple; daughters Denise and her husband Joel Gay of Panama City Beach, Florida; Lisa Naylor of Kingwood, Texas; three grandchildren: Carson and her husband Rickey Beard, Ryley and his wife Francine Richardson, and Lexie and her husband Nick Walker; as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Charles Sodek and wife Sharon of Georgetown, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
Douglas’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched with warmth and dedication. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
