She also grew up in Michigan where she graduated in 1953 from Marshall High School
in Marshall, Michigan. Doris then continued her education at Moody Bible Institute in
Chicago, Illinois where she met her future husband, Charles Barnett through mutual
college friends. Doris and Charles were married on March 22, 1958. They went on to
serve as full time missionaries in Kenya and Uganda, East Africa from 1960- 2011.
Doris will be remembered by her family and friends as a smiling and generous hostess to
all. She served delicious home cooked meals to her family and any guests whether by
campfire in the savannah grasslands of East Africa or at home around the dinner table.
Doris was fondly known for her amazing homemade pies (especially cherry) and other
baked goods. She had the baker’s touch! Doris also thoroughly enjoyed coffee right up
until a few days before her passing when she requested one last cup before she moved
to Heaven!
Doris is preceded in death by her parents Ruth Cunningham Hapgood and Larry
Hapgood, her brother Don Hapgood, and her husband Charles Barnett. She is survived
by her children Debbie Barnett Fast (and husband Brad Fast), Linda Barnett, and Jeff
Barnett (and wife Nicole Barnett). She is also survived by her six grandchildren Sarah
Knight (and husband Brandon Knight), Jennifer Eldridge (and husband Andy Eldridge),
Bradley Fast (and wife Dominique Gutierrez), Joshua Barnett (and wife Lisa Barnett),
Emily McDonald (and husband Jessie McDonald), and Justin Barnett; as well as seven
great grandchildren: Rubie Knight, Brynn Eldridge, Liam and Emery Bailey, Nicole
McDonald, and two on the way.
Doris, you are loved and cherished by so many people whose lives won’t be the same
without you. We love you with all of our hearts, and we cannot wait to see you, again,
“when we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be!”
