Don graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he and his wife Nancy moved to Austin, Texas. His working career included the JCPenny Company, the State Comptroller of Public Accounts, and the State Attorneys Child Support Office. He served in the Arkansas and Texas National Guard. Don enjoyed volunteering at First Methodist Church of Temple, Feed My Sheep, and Ralph Wilson Youth Club. He also enjoyed being with family and friends at various celebrations.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy Ruth of Temple; sister, Dottie (Charlie) Toon of Fort Smith, Arkansas; children, Travis Ruth of Temple and daughter, Allison (Jack) Mankin of Georgetown; grandchildren, Makenzie (Dan) Glushko of Austin, Lauren Ruth of Temple, and Zoey Mankin of Georgetown; and great-grandchildren Mariiah Ashburn of Temple, and Stella Glushko of Austin.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Monday, January 22, 2024 at the Floca Memorial Pavilion at Hillcrest Cemetery with Dr. Tom Robbins officiating. The family will receive visitors from 4-6:00pm Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
The family requests memorials and donations be sent to First Methodist Church of Temple and Churches Touching Lives For Christ Food Pantry in Temple.
