Donald M. Godwin, age 81 of Rogers, died Friday, July 31, 2015 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 4th at First Baptist Church in Rogers with Rev. Craig Churchill and Rev. Bert DeBord officiating. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Godwin was born May 1, 1934 in Austin to T. H. and Eunice Faye Jones Godwin. He graduated from Georgetown High School and received his master's degree in education from Texas A&M. He married Nancy Furlow on September 7, 1957 in Houston. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps. Coach Godwin coached football and track for one year in Wallis, one year in Bellville, two years in Tidehaven and 31 years in Rogers before retiring in 1994 where he was also the athletic director. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rogers and the American Legion Post in Cameron. He was inducted into the Texas High School Hall of Honor in 1990 and was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Board of Directors. Survivors include his wife, Nancy G. Godwin of Rogers, daughter, Lisa Gay Godwin of Montgomery, son, William Paul Godwin of Rogers, two grandchildren, Shannon Ann Godwin of Rogers and Jarrod Don Godwin of Temple. Also surviving is one sister, Pat Sanders of Cherokee and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials to Rogers First United Methodist Church, The Salvation Army, or the Wounded Warriors Project would be appreciated.
