Dennis was born on July 9, 1952, in Fort Benning, Ga., to Doris and Charles Ray Howell. He graduated from Temple High School in 1970 and worked in the concrete business his entire life, starting as a floor sweeper at CenTex Ready Mix in Temple and working his way up in the business to retire as Quality Control Manager in 2019. Dennis loved working in the concrete business so much that he continued on as a contractor with Tex-Mix Concrete until his death.
He married his high school sweetheart Donna Richardson on March 6, 1971, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Temple and they were married for 53-plus years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris; father, Charles Ray; stepfather, Linwood “Boogie” Meissner; sister, Ginger Cooksey; and grandson, Angel Howell. He is survived by his wife, Donna Howell; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Christi Howell of Belton and Brent and Amber Howell of Lorena; grandchildren Travis and Ashley Howell of Belton; Ridge Howell of Lorena; Luke Howell, Mark Howell and Lindsey Howell, all of Academy; Hunter Myers of College Station; and Keller Myers of Belton; and great-grandchildren Evangeline and Timothy Howell of Belton.
Dennis cherished getting together with friends and family, barbecuing, and hanging out with his dog, Boogie.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024 at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. His grandsons, Travis Howell and Ridge Howell, will officiate along with the Rev. Allan Talley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dennis’ honor to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.
