Dallas Shannon

Dallas "D.L." Shannon, 89, of Temple died Saturday December 24, 2011 at a local nursing center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 27, 2011 at the Meadow Oaks Baptist Church with Rev. Lillian Hinds officiating. Military graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday December 28, 2011 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. Mr. Shannon was born August 13, 1922 in Springfield, Tennessee to Dallas L. Shannon, Sr. and Gabriella Jones. He joined the U.S. Army in 1938 and served in WW II and Korea, where he received the Silver Star for action in Korea. He retired in 1962. He then worked for American Desk in Temple from 1962 until 1975. He married Agatha Muckelrath on May 9, 1941 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was a member of SPJST, Retired Officer's Association, 2nd Infantry Division Association, and Meadow Oaks Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Survivors include his wife Agatha Shannon of Temple; one daughter, Carolyn Ash of Spring, TX; one son, Dallas Shannon III of Temple; three grandchildren, Robin Rhea, Jodie Wanner, and Steve Shannon; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson. Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Meadow Oaks Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Meadow Oaks Baptist Church, 3001 Meadow Oaks Dr., Temple, Texas 76502.
