Betty L. Bolin, age 77 of Temple, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 in a local care center. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 18, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Gatto and John Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bolin was born August 9, 1937 in Rogers to John and Edna Hamilton. Growing up around Central Texas, she attended Temple's Central High School. After spending numerous years in the L A County area she returned to Temple with her family. Working as a switchboard operator for over 50 years, she spent the last 30 of them as the voice of Wilsonart International. Up to 1000 daily callers from around the globe were greeted by her cheerful voice; many continued to keep in touch with her even after she retired. Betty married Bill Bolin in 1978, combining their children from previous marriages in to one greater family and made them all feel blessed and special. Sneaking sweets to and spoiling all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of her favorite pastimes. Betty was fortunate enough to enjoy several trips to exotic locations but she was most fond of the beach and being in the sun and the sand. She filled her house with reminders of the joyous times and shared photographs of her experiences with her friends and family. Betty loved to garden and took special pride in her perfectly manicured lawn. An avid animal lover, she never met a cat that she didn't want to pet and enjoyed all the pets of the extended family. Able to make even the simplest outfit look like a million bucks she was always a snappy dresser. Her faith was an important part of her life and she often expressed it through song and poetry. Through the bad times, and especially the good times, she always wore a smile on her face. One of her greatest gifts was always having the right thing to say at the perfect time to a friend in need. She is survived by her husband, Bill Bolin, and her sister La Juana Boone, both of Temple, her children Freddie Scott Brown and wife Kim of Riesel, Carol Verbeke and husband Don of Cedar Park, Janet Armbruster and husband Rick of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Billy Bolin Jr and partner Kenny Trim of Miami, and John Bolin and wife Julie of Temple. In addition she leaves behind seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and a brother. Pallbearers are Glen Rabe, George Wilkinson, Pat Scott, Christopher Miceli, Richard Curtis Sr. and Stephen Foegelle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at www.MercyMinistries.com or www.SafePlace.org.
