Betty Jean Morris, age 84 of Temple, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 31st at First Christian Church with Dr. Don Lynn officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Morris was born July 12, 1932 in Kempner, Texas to Ernest and Meta Doerr Schneider. She lived on the farm for 16 years. She attended Lutheran Day School in Copperas Cove for nine years. She married Cecil Golder on August 2, 1953 in Copperas Cove at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1961. She married Wesley Morris, Jr. on July 4, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2013. She joined First Christian Church in Temple where she was baptized into the church. She sang in the choir, helped with youth groups and Vacation Bible School. She was a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship. She worked in the Temple ISD cafeteria as a specialist for over 25 years. She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary #133 in Temple where she was president, chaplain, Sgt.-at-Arms, historian, girl’s state chaplain and Sgt.-at-Arms of girl’s state chaplain for Dist. 11. She also belonged to V.F.W. Post #1820 for many years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Gwen Campbell and husband, Mike of Morristown, Tennessee, Cindy Hooten and husband, W. T. of McKinney and Elizabeth Urubek and husband, Kenny of Temple and three sons, Richard H. Lohrmann and wife, Elaine M. of Millbrook, Alabama, Dan Golder and wife, Barbara of Temple and Dwain Morris and wife, M. J. of The Grove. She was also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one sister, Gloria Kesslar and husband, Rocco of Sun City and one brother, Weldon Schneider of Copperas Cove.
