Bernard Lewis Bartek, 73, of Temple died and went to join his Heavenly Father on May 9, 2016. Bernard was surrounded by family at his Temple home when he was called Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Friday, May 13, 2016 at St. Luke Catholic Church with Rev. James Ekeocha officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cyclone. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00pm Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with recitation of the rosary at 7:00pm led by Gene Engbrock. Bernard was born December 20, 1942 in Ratibor, TX to William and Bertha Bartek. Bernard was a 1960 graduate of Temple High School and married his childhood sweetheart, Genevieve Bruggman, in 1962. Together the couple had three children. After working for Houghton’s Paint for a short time, he moved on to work for and manage the Sherwin Williams location in Temple for 28 years. In 1984, he opened his own business, Bartek’s Paint and Decorating, which he ran until his retirement in 2002. Bernard’s years after retirement were filled with spending time with his wife, attending his grandchildren’s activities, golfing, fishing, and hunting. Bernard was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M Aggie fan and enjoyed following his teams each weekend. Friend to many, beloved by all who knew him, and selfless almost to a fault, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Teresa Ann Bartek; and his brothers Gary Bartek and Gene Bartek. Bernard is survived by his wife, Gennie; his son Craig Bartek and daughter-in-law Kelley Bartek, of Cypress TX; his daughter Dana Roach and son-in-law David Roach, of Belton; and four grandchildren, Jenna and Kayla Roach of Belton and Brett and Kendall Bartek of Cypress; two sisters, Nancy Hubnik of Cyclone and Diana Bartek of Temple; and two brothers, William Bartek Jr. of McGregor and James Bartek of Belton.
