Atilano Gutierrez Sanchez, age 96, of Pleasanton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, in Temple, Texas. Atilano was born October 16, 1923, to Atilano and Josefina Sanchez of Harlingen, Texas. He was the youngest of 4 children.
Atilano served his country honorably in the US Navy and US Air Force for 29 and half years. He served in the military as a combat medic during World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War. After his retirement, Atilano continued to serve his country in the US Air Force Civilian Service working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, and served his community in nursing homes, until his retirement at the age of 77 years old.
Atilano was a great & honorable patriot man. God blessed the Sanchez Family with a wonderful & loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved life. Atilano’s smiles & memories live in our hearts forever. He will always be a heartbeat away, because we know that Atilano is in heaven with our beautiful & loving mother “Angelina” dancing cheek to cheek.
Atilano met his beautiful & loving wife Angelina Trevino in Pleasanton, Texas, and they were married at St. Andrew Catholic Church, November 22, 1955. Atilano and Angelina were married for 55 years before her passing on October 18, 2008. He is survived by his daughters, Lupita Sanchez of Louisville, KY; Rebecca S. Sanchez and husband Oscar of Killeen; Theresa S. Benavidez and husband Donald of Campbellton; Jessica S. Ramos and husband Luis of San Antonio; Sandra S. Woodall and husband Bob Wayne of Pleasanton. Survived by his sons, Johnny Ray Sanchez, wife Mary Ann of Pleasanton; Michael T. Sanchez of Pleasanton and Jason W. Sanchez of San Antonio; Eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, TX on Friday, October 9, 2020 between 4:00 to 9:00 PM. The funeral service will be at San Ysidro Cemetery in Pleasanton, TX on Saturday, October 10, 2020 between 11:00 AM.
