Aileen Antoinette Hollas Beck, age 91 of Temple, died Friday, May 22, 2020 at her residence. Graveside services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at Bellwood Memorial Park with Rev. Ranjan Cletus officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5-7:00pm Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beck was born on June 8, 1928 in Los Angeles, La Salle County, Texas to the late Richard Hollas and Annie Karnowski Hollas. She attended schools in Cameron and graduated from C. H. Yoe High School in 1945. She graduated nursing training as a Registered Nurse from Providence Hospital in Waco in 1948 and received an Associates of Arts degree from Temple College. Aileen was a member of the U.S. Cadet Peace Corps.
Aileen married Matthew Douglas “Doug” Beck on July 6, 1950 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron, Texas and were married over 63 years. Doug preceded her in death on March 1, 2014. She worked as a RN at Olin E. Teague Veteran Center in Temple for 34 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of National Association of Federal Employees and volunteered in the gift shop at King’s Daughters Hospital for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Elenora Kleypas and husband James “Jim”, Bernadette Hanel and husband Anton “Tony”; and a brother, Louis W. Hollas and wife Shirley Scarborough Hollas.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Taylor and husband Dan of Temple; her son, Gary Beck and wife Ruth of Temple; a brother, George Hollas and wife Eleanor of Cameron; four grandchildren, Jennifer Halterman Martinez and husband Kelly of Temple, Shannon Scott Halterman of Temple, Kelly Douglas Beck and wife Renee Sekel Beck of Humble and Kory William Beck and wife Heidi Waggoner Beck of Maypearl; 11 great grandchildren, Joe Arthur “B.J.” Ortiz, III and wife Krystal Benavides Ortiz, Alexis Cassyanna “Lexi” Garcia and husband Joshua Trevino, Kayla Halterman Palmer and husband Eddie, Keyara Halterman, Brayden Mathew Beck, Tristyn May Beck, Kolt Gary Beck, Kora Madison Beck, Kody Charles Beck, Kollin William Beck and Kase James Beck; five great great grandchildren, Adalyn Grace “Addie” Palmer, Nevaeh Ortiz, Joe Thomas “J.T.” Ortiz, Jo’ziah Prince “Jo-Jo” Deleon (Garcia-Zavala) and Carlos Anthony Trevino; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Memorial may be given in Mrs. Beck’s name to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38103.
