He felt it was a privilege and an honor to be among so many distinguished and talented colleagues in his many professional roles.
He had numerous students who came from a wide variety of backgrounds. He took great joy in helping them over the years, whether it was just getting started, finding a dissertation topic, or getting through the program. He taught classes throughout his career, even when he was in primarily administrative roles. His students were from all over the world and he forged many long term friendships. As one colleague mentioned, those who knew Bill will always remember his positive spirit, kindness, generosity, and his dedication to students.
Family was near and dear to him. He could always be counted on when family needed him for help, or a listening ear for good or bad news. Bill was a great father and husband. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow and develop. He and his wife enjoyed each other’s company and shared their love, laughter and passion for making the world a little bit better while passing through this life.
Bill maintained many long time friendships and was always open to new friends. The people in his neighborhood fondly referred to him as “the Mayor.” He was also friends with the neighbor dogs and kept doggie cookies for any passing by. Bill loved all sports, especially football and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed gardening and was particularly fond of his flowers. Trips to Disney and visiting family and friends were another favorite pastime.
