Raymond "Ray" Charles Davis, age 88, of Chicago, Illinois, and Tampa, Florida, entered to rest on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was born April 7, 1936, in Chicago, the son of Verdis Davis and Joe Soria.
Ray was affectionately known to some as "Buster." Ray is a proud American Veteran. He served in the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force from 1954-1958. He proudly served for 33 years as a police officer and detective for the Chicago Police Department. Upon retirement, he became a business owner of several different interests. His greatest occupation has been his ministering of God's word.
Amongst being a father, husband, brother, uncle and grandfather, Ray was an artist, author, baseball player/coach, Chicago sports enthusiast, coin collector, photographer, antique collector, dog groomer, dog trainer, locksmith, cowboy, CB radio operator, traveler, minister, repairman, referee, business owner, and real estate salesman.
Ray sought out many religious and church experiences. He found his love of Christ and was baptized in 1984 at the Monroe Street Church of Christ. He naturally took to ministry and began preaching as often as he was invited in the Chicago Area. He often traveled to the Belmont Heights Church of Christ in Tampa, Florida and became a regular guest speaker. He was devoted to the ministry and ideally teaching the faith by helping others grow spiritually.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly McCray. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jessie Davis; sons, Raymond Charles Davis, Jr. and Toby Williams; daughter, Sandra Martin and her husband Previn; many loving grand/great-grandchildren and many family members and friends.
A memorial service for Ray will be held from 6-9 pm, Friday August 9, 2024 at Hawkins Multipurpose Center, 650 E Phoenix Center Dr., Phoenix IL,60426.
