Elene was born June 11, 1930 in Homestead, FL, the daughter of Luther and Edna Strickland.
Elene graduated from Homestead High School and received her RN training at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. She married Ernest in 1952 and continued to work (while raising 3 children) as a nurse until 1978. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, an active gardener with the proverbial green thumb, and a prolific master of needlecraft. In 1988, Elene and Ernest moved to Pinellas Park where she was a long-time volunteer with Hospice – all while continuing her ongoing effort to master the New York Times crossword puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Moore. Survivors include her sons, Michael (Honey) and Daniel (Mary) Moore; daughter, Janice (Rick) Estes; sister, Louise Wilson; grandchildren, Ashley (Jim) Marques, Adele (Tom) Yonchak, Molly (Lane) Miller, Aaron (Paula) Moore, Holly (Rick) Hebert, and Benjamin and Sam Estes; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018, with visitation immediately preceding at 11:00 a.m., at Mission Hill Church, 10002 N. 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elene’s honor may be made to your local Hospice.
