Mary Ann Romer

Mary Ann was born October 5, 1942 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Anthony and Mary Plescia Pidala. At the age of five, she moved to Tampa, FL with her parents and lived the next 71 years of her life working, raising her family and enjoying life to the fullest, until she went into the loving arms of our Lord, after a long and valiant fight with cancer. Mary Ann lived with her husband and two children in Temple Terrace, FL & graduated from the University of South Florida. She was an active parishioner at Corpus Christi Catholic Church and later joined St Mary's Catholic Church, after moving to Lutz in 2000 to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann worked at Smithkline Beecham/Quest Clinical Laboratories for more than 50 years, as a Medical Technologist/Department Supervisor before transitioning into the Human Resources Department. Mary Ann enjoyed good food, good wine and good friends. She loved to travel and was fortunate enough to see much of the world, but most of all, she especially loved spending time with her family, who she fiercely loved and put above everything else. Mary Ann was fondly known as Tia to her many nieces and nephews, Nana and Nini to her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and MAR to her many, many friends. She made an indelible mark on everyone whose life she touched and will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Onofrio Pidala; sisters, Rosalie and Angelica Jean; niece, Kristina L Pidala; and her sister-of-the-heart, Akiko Hinkle. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Anthony Romer, Jr.; daughter, Anna Marie Zambito (Stephen); son, John Romer (Christine); brothers, Dr. Francis Pidala (Cindy), Dr. Anthony Pidala (Nanette) and Joseph Pidala (Barbara); sisters-in-law, Jane Nunnally (Mark) and Barbara H. Pidala; grandchildren, DeAnna Zambito Manasse (Ryan), Alexandra Hiller (Jordan), Stephen A. Zambito, and A.J. and Marina Romer; great-grandchildren, Mason Hiller, Aedan Manasse and Ella Hiller. Mary Ann is also survived by her extended Zambito family, her sisters-of-the-heart, Celeste Kirkland, Dena Oppenheim and Joyce Young; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 1, 2019 at Blount & Curry, Terrace Oaks Chapel, 12690 N 56th St, Temple Terrace. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 N. 56th Street, Temple Terrace, followed by interment at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4002 North 50th Street, Tampa.
