Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on June 5, 1939, to Helen Gardner and Foster Moose, her family relocated to Memphis, Tennessee when Dr. Moose accepted a teaching position at Southwestern College, now called Rhodes College. Using her Bachelor of Science in Math from Memphis State University, now called University of Memphis, Anita enjoyed a successful career as an educator, working as a high school teacher at Memphis University School in Memphis, Tennessee for 10 years. She moved from Memphis to Tampa, Florida in 1993 to enjoy retirement. During retirement, Anita remained independent and active by spending time with friends and family, volunteering through Tampa Palms Women’s Club, Oasis and gathering donations for animal shelters, finding new plants for her garden, making food for family and friends, and loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anita recently returned from a trip to Arkansas to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anita is survived by her loving husband and sweetheart, Jim Hampson. Jim and Anita's continued journey together is a testament to the strength of their bond, and their love story continues to be a heartwarming example for us all. The rest of her family is spread across the United States, but each of them holds a special place in Anita's heart.
Her brother, Bob Moose, and his beloved wife, Mary Moose, found their home in the warm embrace of Texas. In the sunny state of Florida, her son Brad Hampson, and his caring wife, Christie Hampson, created a haven of love, where Anita watched her grandson Bradley Hampson grow into the remarkable person he is today. Over in Missouri, her granddaughter Victoria Hampson and her adoring husband, Stefan Reed, made a nest for themselves, providing Anita with endless joy and two delightful great-grandchildren, Stefan Reed II and Lorraine Reed, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Anita's daughter, Lori Hampson Green, and her own daughter, Ripley Green, found their roots in the beautiful state of Tennessee.
Anita was a cherished member of The Tampa Palms Women's Club, where she was surrounded by many impactful women and developed lifelong friends. Her unwavering dedication and tireless efforts left an indelible mark on our hearts and the lives she touched. Anita's passion for service and her boundless love for her fellow club members were a testament to the remarkable woman she was. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, community, and camaraderie that will forever be a part of the fabric of our close-knit group. We will forever be grateful for the profound impact she had on us all. Anita's memory will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the power of community and the love that binds us together.
The family would like her spirit of generosity and helping others to live on, so in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Tampa Palms Women’s Club Scholarship, Oasis, The Humane Society of Tampa Bay, and Community Pet Project. Anita Lorraine Hampson will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever be cherished.
