Esther spent her early years on the family farm in Ashby. At the age of 8, the family moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where she lived until she graduated from high school. She was a 1945 graduate of Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls, MN, and a 1948 graduate of Deaconess Hospital, School of Nursing in Minneapolis.
Esther was married in 1948 to David Langager, and their marriage produced seven children: John, Mary Beth, Eric, Melody, Anne Marie, Mark and Christine. Her husband, David, predeceased Esther. She leaves her seven children, eighteen grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren, sisters Ruth Brewer and JoAnn Larson, and brother Robert Overgaard and numerous extended relatives and friends.
Esther had a long and rewarding career as a nurse, missionary to Japan (where she became fluent in Japanese), pastor’s wife, mentor, and teacher to many women and children. Her ministry responsibilities at one point included partnering with her husband in producing a weekly Christian television program leading the children’s choir for the Family Bible Hour in Williston, ND, while her husband brought the message. Music was a big part of her life, and she participated in several traveling singing groups in her earlier years and incorporated music into every family gathering. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
The Memorial Service will be held at Fellowship Square Historic on 35 West Brown Road in Mesa Arizona on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at a later date in two months. Specific time and place will be announced when scheduled.
