James Franklin Buchanan (Jim or Frank to some) age 77 departed this life peacefully after a battle with COPD at Blount Memorial Hospital on January 19,2015. He was born in Claiborne County, TN and Grew up on the Farm in Hancock and Grainger County , TN. At a young age, he attended Thomas Chapel United Methodist church and Mulberry Gap Baptist Church. He Graduated with the class of 1956 from Hancock co. High School Sneedville TN. He Loved his classmates and always looked forward to his class reunion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army 1960-62. He received special training in Communications in preparation for American defense. Along with special army buddy Lloyd Hershel Seal, he served in Germany. He Lived in Maryland and Washington, D.C. area for 32 years, enjoying his first job as a Good Humor Man, selling ice-cream to the children. He was employed as a delivery driver and dispatcher for Griffith Consumer fuel oil co., solon service and sterling laundry. Later he operated his own company, Buchanan door service installing residential, security and overhead garage door. After moving back to the Knoxville area, he worked for people very special to him at Keck construction company. He liked to bowl, fish and sight see on summer vacations.
Preceded In death by parents; Ross and Viola Buchanan and infant sister; Mary Ruth. Also Step-daughter Ranee Wilson; Special Companion; Sue Munsey and many aunts uncles, other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his daughter; Jennifer of Cottonport, LA and grandchildren Isaiah Micah, Tay and D.J. Parkman.
His sister; Elma Malone of Kyles Ford, TN
Aunts: Alice Estella Mayer of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; Maraget Ramsey of Burtonsville, MD and Betty Ramsey of Sneedville TN
Special cousin Ann Davis of Knoxville, TN .
He will be missed by many other cousins and special friends
A special thank you is extended to all those who assisted in any way during his illness,(Caregivers friends neighbors, volunteers, ministers, physicians and staff, EMS, Fire departments church members etc). All acts of kindness were appreciated by Mr. Buchanan and family
The family will receive friends Friday January 23rd from 10:00am-1:00pm at the Coffey funeral home chapel in New Tazewell, funeral to follow at 1:00pm in the Coffey funeral home chapel In New Tazewell, burial to follow In the Hopkins cemetery.
