NOVEMBER 29, 1920---JANUARY 27, 2018
Rudolph and his twin brother, Adolph, were born on November 29, 1920 in Kovar Texas, a small
community south of Smithville. They were the youngest of five (5) children of Joe Kovar and Mary
Matysek Kovar.
At the age of six (6) or seven (7), the Kovar Family moved to the community of Circleville Texas. They
were a farming family and all the children had to work in the fields to support the family. It was
growing up farming that Rudolph developed his excellent knowledge and skills of producing
prosperous crops. As he became of age, he became the ram rod of the family farming operation and his
parents and siblings looked up to him to make the important decisions.
Rudolph farmed successfully until he became eligible for Social Security benefits. At this point in his
life, he purchased a home in Granger where he began a very successful gardening venture. He would
supply all his neighbors with the fruits of his garden. He was so serious about gardening, that his entire
back yard and most of his front yard were vegetable beds. While living here, he would also go out and
help some of his neighbors, who farmed nearby, in any function he was physically capable of. He also
went out every year and picked pecans and spent many hours shelling them to give to friends or
relatives.
Rudolph attended Circleville School, but never went to high school. While in school, he was
recognized for his artistic talent. Many of his artistic works were entered, by his teachers, in the
University Interscholastic League art competition for children his age.
Rudolph was a very devout member of SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. In fact, after he was
declared legally blind and couldn't operate a vehicle anymore, he would walk over a mile, one way, to
attend Sunday services, regardless of the weather. This was at the age of over ninety (90) years. He was
also very proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Rudy, as he was known to many of his friends, was a very simple man and soft spoken. All who knew
him, will remember him for his big heart and his nature of giving.
