Robert Lee Orr III passed away at Will-O-Bell nursing home in Bartlett, Texas on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the age of 96. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Elizabeth “Liz”, who will miss him dearly and was a loving uncle to his two Goddaughters Sandra Ging and Karen Peschke who cared deeply for him.
Robert was born to Robert Lee Orr II and Audrey (Castor) Orr on August 30, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas.
He grew up in Rockdale, Texas and enjoyed going on trips to the California coast with his grandmother and helping his grandfather in his grocery store where he could eat all the candy he wanted. He carried this sweet tooth with him into adulthood, always enjoying multiple desserts at family gatherings. Robert began his working career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1951 as a lineman in the Texas valley area, then processed telephone orders in Austin, Texas, and later served as a plant assigner. His career with Southwestern Bell took him to Beaumont, Texas where he worked as a clerk until he retired in December 1984 after 33 years of service.
Robert joined the United States Armed Forces on April 28, 1952 for a short time before being honorably discharged for medical reasons.
He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Agnes Mazac on May 22, 1948. The two remained happily married for 76 years, doing everything together and sharing an unbreakable bond between the two of them, while all of the time loving and caring for one other.
Robert and Liz enjoyed traveling across the United States in their motorhome, even making it up to Washington State. Robert loved yard work and was most pleased with raising lilies and helping Liz with her business and many household projects. For 40 plus years they entertained family and friends at their home and Nueces camp house on the river, playing 42 dominoes into the wee hour of the morning. They also loved to drive a short distance to Louisiana to play the slot machines at the casino, where they were lucky enough to win a new GMC Sierra truck.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Audrey Orr; his half-sister, Audra and her children; and brother-in-law Raymond Mazac and wife Shirley.
Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; nieces, Sandra Ging and husband James, Karen Peschke and husband Walter; great nephews, Brandon Peschke, James Bradley Ging and wife Sierra; and great great nieces Hadley and Holly Ging.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 1 p.m. at the Taylor City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Taylor Brethren Church Vision Fund at P.O. Box 351, Taylor, TX 76574.
The family wants to thank the Will-O-Bell staff, Amedisys Hospice staff, and private care givers for their compassionate and loving care provided to Robert and his family over the past several years.
