Bob served two tours in the US Navy during World War II and continued serving his country as a member of the VFW in Thorndale, Texas. He met the love of his life, Valerian Josephine Balusek in Holland, Texas whom he married on November 25, 1949 in Granger, Texas. A few years later Bob and Val moved from Holland, Texas to Thorndale, Texas where they called home for the last 62 years and had four sons. Bob was hired on with ALCOA Aluminum where he retired after 35 years.
Bob had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh, he also enjoyed deer and fox hunting, fishing, playing 42, listening to the Houston Astros on the radio while watching sputniks fly over.
Bob is survived by his wife, Valerian Hegar and his four sons: Robert and wife Cheryl, Steve and wife Kathy, Justin, Preston and wife Terri, his 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, his brothers: John Alan Hegar, Henry and wife Kathy Hegar. He is preceded in death by his parents Jerry and Mary Hegar, sisters Lilian (Lil) Foster, Gladys Hegar, brothers Edvin, Frank and Dan Hegar.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren which include Clayton, Julie, Michael, Brandon, Christopher, Kristina, Blake, Brooke, Heather, Blayne, and Mendy.
There will be a visitation Wednesday September 12, 2018 at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral will be 10:00am Thursday September 13, 2018 at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor, Texas with a burial following at Holland City Cemetery in Holland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers donations to be made to Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department/ EMS. The family would like to give special thanks to the Thorndale Police Department for their service.
