Dean was born in Austin, TX on July 17th, 1931 to the late B.B. and Clara Childress.
In 1952, Dean enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Porterfield. He was a local business owner of Dean’s Insulation, installing commercial insulation all across the state of Texas for more than 50 years. He raised and raced greyhounds in the 1960’s until the mid-1980’s. Dean enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. On the weekends, you could usually find him in a deer blind with his grandsons or on the lake with a fishing pole in his hand telling stories to friends and family or whoever would listen.
Dean is survived by many family members who loved him. He is survived by his two step daughters Sue Schuler and her husband Jim and Kristi Bailey and her husband Ronnie. His many grandchildren, Deana Stafford and her husband Scott, Shannon Walker and her husband Aaron, Robert Schuler and his wife Nicole, Cody Schuler and his wife Kathleen, Ronnie Bailey Jr. and Ryan Bailey. His great-grandchildren Bradley Simon and his wife Chelsea, Justin Wise, Kaeley Schuler, Autumn Schuler, AJ Schuler, Emma Schuler, Zane Schuler, Chloe Schuler, Elsie Schuler, and Theo Schuler. His great-great-grandchildren Jade Simon and Dexter Pace-Schuler. His nephew Rob Aldridge and his wife Cheryl and their children Hannah and Hayden. He was also survived by many that he adopted as part of his family, Kenny Simon, Diane and Marvin Stromberg, Juan & Maria Arreola, and their children Rosie, Gladys, and Jennifer.
Dean is preceded in death by his mother and father, B.B. and Clara Childress. His two sisters Helen Cox and Laverne Mitchell. His six brothers Roland Childress, Jimmie Childress, Lester Childress, Marvin Childress, Wilburn Childress, and Wesley Childress. His daughter Deana Childress. Many loved aunts and uncles and cousins.
Celebration of Life for Orville Dean Childress will be held at the Taylor SPJST Hall, 5025 FM 619, Taylor, TX 76574 on Friday, November 11, 2022 @ 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to a Navy Veteran Organization.
