Elsie Ann Zrubek Weber

December 11, 1918 to May 10, 2010

Elsie Ann (Zrubek) Weber was born to Raymond and Tracy (Kovar) Zrubek on December 11, 1918 in Beaukiss, Texas. Elsie was baptized and confirmed in the Czech Moravian Brethren Church in Granger. Elsie was one of six children raised at Possum Creek in Granger, Texas. As a child, Elsie and her siblings helped on the family farm raising a variety of crops.

As Elsie grew into a young woman she met and fell in love with Henry Schirpik. Henry and Elsie were married in 1941. The couple had two beautiful daughters, Doris and Patricia. The family resided in Taylor. Elsie spent her days as a homemaker raising her daughters. Unfortunately, Elsie’s husband Henry died unexpectedly in 1960. The family stayed strong in their faith continuing their lives in Taylor. God blessed Elsie allowing her to find a very special man, Calvin Weber. Calvin would not only become a wonderful husband but an outstanding father to her daughters.

Elsie loved spending time in her flower garden. Countless hours were spent watering and tending to her flowers only to take small breaks sitting on her swing watching cars pass by and talking to her wonderful neighbors.

Elsie enjoyed making the Bingo rounds with her sister Angeline. For over 20 years, she would head to Moe’s Lounge every Friday and Sunday evening to play her favorite card game, Scat. Elsie and her friends would play for hours.

Elsie loved to go car riding out in the country. One of her favorite road trips was to Zabcikville to get sausage, cheese, and homemade bread. Elsie spent many hours cooking up her grandchildren’s favorite foods which included homemade mash potatoes, dressing, oatmeal cookies, noodles, fried chicken, and potato soup.

Throughout Elsie’s life she experienced great happiness and tragic sorrow. Through it all, she remained a strong and faithful woman. She was a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many.

Elsie is survived by a daughter, Patricia Cornell and husband, Steve of Coupland; a sister, Angeline Cmerek of Taylor; grandsons, Jason Talley and wife, Tammy of Taylor; Jordan Talley and wife, Paula of Taylor; Stevie Cornell of Austin; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Cornell of Coupland; great-grandchildren Lori, Ryan, Reice, Madison and Cade Talley all of Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elsie is preceded in death by a daughter Doris Schirpik; husbands Henry Schirpik and Calvin Weber; brothers Raymond, Rudy, and Jerry Zrubek; sister Lydia (Zrubek) Volney; and parents Raymond and Tracy (Kovar) Zrubek.

Elsie passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at approximately 2:30 p.m. at Johns Community Hospital in Taylor. She was 91 years young.
