Dennis Johnson, 76, of Hutto died on Wednesday, October 3rd 2012 surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born in Hutto on January 25, 1936 to Amy Almquist and Lambert Johnson. He was baptized on March 18, 1936 and confirmed on September 10, 1950 at Hutto Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. He graduated from Hutto High School in 1954 and then attended Nixon-Clay Business School in Austin.
Dennis served in the U.S. Army from September 27, 1956 to June 26 1958. At Fort Eustis, Virginia he completed training for aircraft electrical repair. At Fort Ord, California he completed training in H-23 maintenance. He was involved in the 6th US Army Aircraft Field Maintenance Activity. Upon his release from Ft. Ord he transferred to the US Army Reserves from which he received an honorable discharge on August 31, 1962. During this time he honed his skills as a mechanic, welder and electrician.
Dennis married Nadine Roznovak of Hutto on July 20, 1958. She survives him along with a daughter, Carole, his granddaughter, Scarlett (his little sweetheart) and Art Cavazos. His other survivors include his brother Ronald and his wife Dianna of Salado, his sister Patsy Heckmann and her husband Raymond of Seguin, Sarah Johnson wife of Ernest Farrack of Walburg, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry W. and Linda Roznovak of Hutto and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ralph and Lester, a sister Laverne Free and her husband Morris of Austin, and brother-in-law Nathan Roznovak of Hutto.
Dennis had a great love for family, church, farming, fishing, flowers, and his pug dog Mr. J., as well as his country. He was a farmer in the Hutto community until his retirement.
The family is grateful to Mark and Sheila from Hospice Compassus, the aides and nurses at San Gabriel, Dr. John Hays and Dr. Laura Gilbey from Austin and Dr. Cathy Castillo from Hutto for their loving care provided during the years Dennis fought the battle with COPD.
Visitation for Dennis will be held in Condra Funeral Home on Friday October 5, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm.
Funeral Services will be at Hutto Lutheran Church on Saturday October 6, 2012 at 2pm. Burial will follow immediately in Hutto Lutheran Cemetery.
Honoring Dennis as pallbearers will be his nephews: Don Free, Brandon Roznovak, Jeff Roznovak, Mike Heckmann, Mark Heckmann, Traugott Johnson, Ralph Johnson, Chris Johnson, Jason Free, and Jack Hampton.
