Dede was born on January 28, 1957 in Canyon, TX, to Lewell and Juanita Johnston. She worked for Randall’s (Safeway) stores for 35 years, until her retirement in 2013. During her retirement she started Crate and Lily’s Handmade Goods, a business where she sold her one-of-a-kind designs in local gift shops. She was known for her compassionate spirit, if there was a need Dede was there, no strings attached. She crocheted hats and booties for premature babies in the NICU and most recently made masks for healthcare workers at nursing homes and hospitals. When she wasn’t creating she was cooking for her family gatherings where she was known to always have plenty for everyone.
Dede was preceded in death by her grandfather, L.S. “Slim” Johnston, grandmother, Flossie Johnston, father, Lewell Johnston, mother Juanita Johnston and nephew Todd Hawkins. She is survived by her husband, Tom, four children, Sybil, Nathan, Brian, and Sharon, four grandchildren, Clayton, Holley, Parker, and Milton, four sisters, Ann, Debbie, Nicci, and Jo, aunt Dorothy, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial will be held for family.
Love is a promise, love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten,
never let it disappear.
