Dr. Alonso is survived by his beloved wife, Irma Robert; his two children, Robert Anthony and Aileen; his son-in-law, Jose Joaquin Rodriguez; his grandchildren, Liliana and Jose Joaquin Anthony; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Dr. Alonso was born on April 16, 1939, in San Juan, Puerto Rico to Dr. Miguel Alonso and Bernice Lewis. A world-renowned Otolaryngologist, he graduated from Amherst College, Yale School of Medicine, and completed his medical training at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Alonso dutifully served in the United States Navy before going into private practice.
Dr. Alonso shared an idyllic fifty-year marriage with Irma Robert. Over that half-century together, the couple welcomed two children into their home and set about teaching them to lead honorable and respectable lives. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, and above all, brilliant father who encouraged them to live righteous and meaningful lives.
Dr. Alonso was a prominent otolaryngological surgeon, researcher, lecturer, and professor. Known for his unsurpassed intellect, yet humble and calm demeanor, Tony was passionate about his family, his Country, golf, and traveling the world, which he did extensively with is adoring Irmita.
A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, at 509 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602, with burial to follow at Noon at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, located at 4207 E Lake Ave, Tampa, FL 33610. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dr. Alonso’s life.
