BENNETT, Walter A., 83, passed away on August 29, 2013 in Tampa, FL. He was born on March 12, 1930 in Scotland, GA to the late Anthony and Ruby Bennett of Dade City, FL. Walter served in the Marine Corps from 1947 to 1977 and retired as a First Sergeant. His career included three tours as a drill instructor at Parris Island, SC. He also served in Korea from 1950-51 in the Chosin Reservoir and in Vietnam from 1966-67. Following his military service, he served 17 years as a police officer at Tampa International Airport. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine; children Carol Sivyer (Neal), Stephen Bennett (Becky), and Susan Vowels; grandchildren Jared, Brian, Heidi, Christopher, Kelly, Nicole, and Sean, as well as great-grandchildren Addison, Jackson, Aurora, and Arwen. A visitation will take place on Friday, September 6, 2013 from 5 to 8PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home. Funeral services will then take place on Saturday, September 7 at 10AM at the funeral home with interment with full military honors at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Melech Hospice House.
