Mr. Thomas “Tom” H. Dickson of Tampa passed away on May 3rd, 2019 at the age of 97. Tom was born in Westminster, South Carolina to the late Mark Phillip Dickson and Amanda Ridley Dickson. He grew up in Waycross Georgia and graduated from Waycross Senior High. Tom served his country during World War II in the 372nd Field Artillery Battalion of the Army’s 99th infantry division. His unit saw combat action during the Battle of the Bulge. Tom was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart during his service. After returning from the war, he worked for the railroad in Waycross and Tampa before retiring after 40 years of service. During his retirement, he enjoyed tending to his fruit tress and growing vegetables in his garden. Tom embodied the traits of the Greatest Generation that include personal responsibility, humility, a hard work ethic, prudent savings and a faithful commitment.
Tom was married to the late Geraldine “Gerry” Barnes Dickson for 75 years. In addition to his wife, his daughter Nancy B. Dickson, three brothers, Johnnie H. Dickson, Marvin Charles Dickson, Morris Lelan Dickson and a sister, Janie Emillee Dickson, preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Mark Dickson and daughter-in-law Donna Dickson; grandchildren, Matthew Dickson and Ashley Bischoff; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Joseph Elmore Dickson and his wife Kay of Homer, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tom’s honor to Alzheimer's Association or the National Kidney Association.
