Tanner Alan White, 36, of Tampa, unexpectedly passed away in his home on June 10, 2024. Tanner was a beacon of light known for his unwavering faith, boundless compassion, and infectious joy that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tanner was born on November 23, 1987 to Ron and Ruth White in Tampa, Florida. He attended Plant High School and later went on to graduate with a Masters of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2017. Since 2018, he served as the Senior Pastor of Hillsborough United Methodist Church and was ordained as an Elder in the United Methodist Church on June 8, 2024. He also worked at Raymond James, raising equity for affordable housing projects.
Tanner was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Mallory, and a cherished father to their two beautiful daughters, Luna and Noah. His family was the heart of his world and he filled their lives with love, laughter and a deep sense of belonging.
As a father, Tanner was a hero to Luna and Noah. His playful spirit combined with his sense of responsibility created a nurturing environment for the girls to thrive. He often shared stories of his adventures of surfing, fishing, and boating, fostering their imagination and teaching them the values he held so dear.
Tanner’s marriage to Mallory was a testament to their unwavering love. They met when they were both just 14 years old. As teenagers, they began a friendship that bolstered their romantic relationship which blossomed in 2012. Their bond was evident and characterized by mutual respect, support, and an unbreakable connection. They have built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith, which will be a sanctuary that will continue to nurture Mallory, Luna, and Noah in the days and years to come.
Tanner’s calling as an ordained minister was not just a vocation but a reflection of his profound dedication to his faith and community. He was a shepherd to his congregation, offering guidance, comfort, and hope. His sermons, always filled with wisdom and warmth, inspired many to seek kindness and understanding in their own lives. He had a unique gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued.
Though his time with us was far too short, Tanner’s legacy of faith and love will continue to resonate. His spirit will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the countless hearts that are now carrying forward his messages.
He was a gifted speaker and wise beyond his years. He was steadfast in his faith, dedicated his life to helping others, and will be greatly missed by so many.
Tanner was predeceased by his grandparents Travis, Marilyn, Leroy, and Hilda. He is survived by Mallory (wife), Luna (daughter), Noah (daughter), Ruth (mother), Ron (father), as well as countless loving extended family members, friends, and parishioners.
The void left by his passing is profound, but so too is the gratitude for having had him in our lives.
Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation at Blount & Curry 605 S MacDill Ave. Tampa, Florida from 4:00-7:00 pm on Friday, June 21, 2024. A time of reflection will be held at 6:00pm for those who want to share memories.
Tanner White's Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Clergy are invited to wear robes with white stoles. The service will also be on livestream: HydeParkUMC.org/TannerWhite. In Tanner's memory, the family has requested donations go to the Franciscan Center 3010 N. Perry Ave. Tampa, Florida 33603.
Rest in peace, Tanner. Enter silence and be still like water shaken, then settled. From the silence, choose life. Your light continues to shine in our hearts, guiding us through the darkness with your enduring faith and love.
