Susan was born on February 4, 1948 in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey, with her parents Dr. Gerald and Adele Del Pomo Rosamilia and her older sisters Judy and Marlyn. Her home was full of love, music, and celebrations with her large, extended Italian family. She studied piano and was a gifted pianist. She composed her own music, as well as poetry, from an early age. She attended Tuscan Elementary School, Maplewood Junior High School and graduated from Columbia High School in 1966, spending the summer after graduation studying at the University of Florence. She studied English and Italian at Catholic University of America, and received her Bachelor’s degree in English/Education from Seton Hall University in 1970. She went on to receive her Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Montclair State University in 1987.
Susan was a dedicated educator, and devoted her life to educating children. For the first two decades of her career, she was an English and Gifted and Talented teacher and staff development coordinator in Elizabeth, Bloomfield, and Edison public schools in New Jersey. In 1992, she was named principal of William Mason Elementary School in Montville Township, New Jersey. She also held principalships at Quail Hollow Elementary School in Pasco County, Florida, and Stonybrook School in Kinnelon, New Jersey. In addition, she taught her fellow educators as part of the Executive Leadership Collaborative at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
She married the love of her life, Edward Glickman, on February 16, 1991 in Parsippany, New Jersey. Ed and Sue were partners in life, and shared a love of education, Italy, Bruce Springsteen, the Mets, Billy Joel, and Disney. They traveled extensively, and returned to their beloved Italy regularly.
Susan was devoted to her stepchildren, Deanna and Michael, and to her grandchildren Emilia, Andrew, Brea, and Eli. She deeply loved and was adored by her nieces Christine, Jennifer, Susan, and Annemarie.
Susan is survived by her husband Edward; sisters Judith Covich (Philip) and Marlyn Pringle (Jeff); stepdaughter Deanna Ferrante (Michael); stepson Michael (and fiancée Meghan Jackson); granddaughters Emilia Ferrante and Brea Glickman; and grandsons Andrew Ferrante and Eli Glickman.
A memorial service will be held on April 19, 2021 at 10:30 am at Blount and Curry Funeral Home, 3207 W Bearss Avenue, Tampa, FL 33618. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Those unable to attend in person will be able to attend a virtual service.
