Stephen G. Oster, age77, passed away on, Saturday at home in Tampa, Fla. Stephen was born April 9, 1945, in Tampa, Florida, the son of Irving (Izzie) and Lucille Oster. He attended schools in Tampa and graduated from Plant High School. Thereafter, he attended University of Georgia; transferred to and graduated from University of South Florida. He later graduated from Stetson University College of Law. He was an Assistant County Solicitor and then an Assistant State Attorney in Tampa, FL. He served in the private practice of law concentrating in Criminal Law and then primarily in Family Law. During these years he was an Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Criminology, University of South Florida, often teaching a full-time load with 90 or more students per class for some 30 years, which was his most fulfilling endeavor. In 2019 he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed and excelled in black and white photography, fishing and restoring select antiques.
His parents Irving (Izzie) and Lucille Oster, his brother Richard David Oster and his brother-in-law Alan Levy of Ft. Lauderdale, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wonderful friend and beloved wife Susan “Sam” Whaley-Oster; son Michael Oster (Hon. Cindy) of Tampa, FL; Terri Oster Beyer (Darren) of San Francisco, CA; sister, Marsha Levy of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nephew Eric Levy; niece Hope Evans (Tom), and grandniece Hannah and grandnephew Benjamin; stepsons Derek and Cameron Metzger, Gregory and Christopher Amiot, stepdaughter Katherine Cirella and his adored grandsons - Justin, Caleb and Christian Metzger.
Additionally, he leaves behind many dear friends from early school years who stayed in touch; as well as those friends he met during his career and long life. He maintained a close friendship with many throughout his life; including his fraternity brothers from University of Georgia, a few very special physicians, fellow attorneys, and judges. And his very special friend, who gave him his first job as an attorney, E.J. Salcines.
Visitation - Dec 8, 2022, 5-7 pm at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S MacDill Ave Tampa, FL. Funeral - Dec 9, 11:30 am at St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 2418 W Swann Ave, Tampa FL. Interment will follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
