Scott Slayton

Scott Slayton, 62, of Land O Lakes, Florida, and 44 year employee of United Airlines, passed away unexpectedly to Covid 19.

He loved his family devotedly; God; golfing with family and friends who were one and the same; cornhole any day of the week; bowling with his United buddies; being outside with nature; traveling and cruising with family and friends; wearing the same rotation of bright shirts; Mexican Fiesta in Detroit; Black Rock Grill; Portillo’s chocolate cake; playing cards and games; classic rock; playing air guitar with pool sticks; drumming on furniture; Snickers; Reeses Peanut Butter Cups; mixed nuts; anything lemon; and everything Detroit.

Scott was very passionate about his family. He never missed a moment to celebrate his daughters’ achievements or coach them in sports. He had amazing patience to have three women in the house and had no qualms shopping for their “needs”. He truly was the best dad any one could ever ask for.

Scott loved to serve and help those in need. Even if it was an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on, he was a loyal friend. You had to be careful if “Dr Phil” popped out for loving but unwarranted advice. He had a passion for mission trips and took many to Haiti and also Kentucky, Florida, and Louisiana. He was like a pebble thrown into a lake as the lives he touched acted as ripples that extend far beyond us.

He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his best friend and love of his life Sharon (35 years), beautiful daughters Kristen and Kelli who he was so proud of; craft beer buddy son-in-law Neal; competitive game lover future son-in-law Dan; sister Sue (George) Flynn; brother Steve (Pat) Slayton; BIL Don Cox; BIL and former cornhole partners and sports lovers Roger (Darlene), Ron (Debby), Rob (Kathi), and Jamie (Alison) Burhite. He also leaves behind 6 nephews and 6 nieces who he loved to make memories with; grand dog Wrigley; grand cats Goober, Ashi, and Theo; and countless loved ones who referred to him as Uncle Scott, Scooter, Scotty or Scotch. But he’s going to be with his best friend Jesus, Father and Mother Herb and Helen Slayton, sister Sandy, Father and Mother in-laws Everett and Marilyn Burhite, and BIL and SIL Rick and Mary Burhite.

His family will be devoted to live on his legacy to live life to the fullest as it’s far too short, put family first, and to look beyond your circle to help those in need. Scott was one of a kind. He will never be forgotten but remembered for his selfless and giving, caring heart and missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

On 3/12 there will be visitation from 2pm-4pm at Blount and Curry Funeral Home (3207 W Bearss Ave, Tampa, FL 33618). From 4pm to 5pm there will be a service held. This portion will be livestreamed and we will post the link on the day so that those who are not comfortable attending in person can still be there with us. After the service there will be a small get together at Marlow’s Tavern (13134 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618), there will appetizers and drinks if you would like to join us.

On 3/19, there will be a service held at 12:30pm at Christ Community Church (37W100 Bolcum Rd, St. Charles, IL 60175) this church was very special to Scott and we want to honor him by having a service there. After the service from 2pm to 5pm there will be a celebration of life held at Rob and Kathi Burhite’s Home (2293 Cottonwood Dr Elgin IL 60123).

Please attend in whatever way you are comfortable. We know that it is a tough time right now and there are a lot of factors to consider. We just ask that you keep Scott in your hearts and his memory alive. Thank you again for everyone’s support.
